POKHARA, Nepal – The death toll from the jeep accident in Okhaldhunga district on Sunday has reached eleven. DSP Dambar Bahadur BK, Chief at District Police Office Okhaldhunga, informed that seven persons were killed on the spot, while four others died while receiving treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Maniram Bhattarai, Tek Bahadur Basnet, Dohini Bhattarai, Sarita Khadka, Tika Basnet, Cholendra Khatri, Mankumar Rai, Ram Pyari Basnet , Apsara Niraula, Deepesh Khatri and Kumar Basnet.
The accident occurred after the jeep, Ba 5 Cha 5875, heading towards the district headquarters from Nishankhe VDC of the district skidded off the road and fell some 200 meters down at Siddhicharan Municipality -11.
“The jeep was reserved for ferrying a patient to hospital,” DSP BK said, “On the way to hospital many people boarded the jeep with the capacity of five people.”
According to him, the mishap occurred as the jeep was overloaded and was travelling on uphill road. 15 injured in the accident are receiving treatment at Mission Hospital in Okhaldhunga.
